"Line" and "Shape"

In design, a simple line is the most fundamental part of art. I say this because a line is a continuous dot that forms any shape or object in your control. The characteristics of a line consist of horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and even curved lines. A line is part of the process of creating something extraordinary. For example, in the image above the artist used lines to create an aggressive, intense look with dramatic, curved lines.

Shapes also have an important role in art/ design. Shapes contribute balance within an art piece; they create complex drawings and paintings with the different shapes an artist decides to use. For example, the image on the right uses soft shapes creating a more soft look; including the harmony of the colors. Shapes connect and tie everything together.
