Font size typically is the dictation of the height of lettering. They are measured by different points. Font size is important because it can bring different communications and tell you whats more important than other things. For example, individuals make more important details larger so your attention can wonder to that focal point first, then they make additional information a more small, reasonable size so you can read that after. Then, the type of font style an artist uses is important because it sets a tone and mood. For example, if an individual uses a scary font, it sets an intense mood. Finally, kerning adds everything together because you always want to space your lettering for the mood to be set perfectly, and thats exactly what kerning does, spaces the letters to the way you like it. It's only appropriate to do so because it also sets a mood and tone.
