Harmony/Unity in an art design is simply the soothing part of the art piece. When the artist puts similar, related elements together, it creates a soothing look, as if the elements were meant for each other. Think of it as music, when the song harmonizes, it sounds beautiful and satisfies your ears; when you harmonize in art, it satisfies the eyes. For example, the image above, uses similar colors throughout the art work and balances the colors creating some type of cohesion between the contrast colors.

Unity, in art, fills in a sense of completeness. As if the elements the artist used were meant to be together, like soul mates almost. Unity brings a balance between organization and quality to the art piece, and prevents confusion and clutters among the image. For example, the image on the right, has the same soft color throughout the whole image creating a balance between the ice creams and background. Also the composition of the image is organized with a straight line with ice creams and same texture within each.
