There are a series of different elements in art, two of them being Emphasis and Contrast. Emphasis is an area in the image that draws attention, the focal point of a certain image. Bringing attention as in enlarging or even toning down a certain area. Contrasting your art work is when you arrange different elements. For example, light and dark, smooth and rough. Both elements associate with a very distinct difference in areas. I believe my examples reflect these principles of design because they really bring out the focal point of an art piece.

The image on the left is an example of emphasis. The lips are the focal point of the photo, the center of attention.
The image on the right is an example of contrast. this artist used two contrast colors, black and white.
